Pantheon Mitty 2 – Mitch Thompson Pro Model

The original Mitch Thompson Pro Model was built for downhill riders who wanted a slim race deck with slalom trucks and fat wheels. Mitch has been riding it hard ever since, and his style has only gotten tighter. Racing keeps moving toward smaller, more compact setups, and Mitty wanted to push that further. More compact, more control, more stopping power, and ultimately faster. So we built him exactly what he asked for.

The Mitty 2 is shorter, slimmer, and built like an absolute tank. Mitch asked for a board with zero torsional flex. Not a little. Zero. So we took essentially the same construction as our Nexus and put it into a deck with a wheelbase well over 10 inches shorter. The result is a compact race deck that does exactly what you tell it to do and nothing else.

We got Mitch dialed in on the shape early. In his words, “Concave, shape, size, all that is perfect.” Where he pushed us was the construction. One of our early prototypes used a bamboo core, and it just wasn’t stiff enough for him. He wanted something more planted. So we swapped to a thick 8-ply Canadian maple core, added triaxial glass, and wrapped it in pre-preg. “I don’t know what weapons World War III will be fought with, but World War IV will be fought with sticks, stones, and Mitty decks.” — Albert Einstein (probably).

CONSTRUCTION

8 plies of Canadian maple, sandwiched between triaxial fiberglass on both sides, then wrapped in a pre-preg fiberglass shell top and bottom with a sublimated graphic. That’s a lot of board packed into a small footprint. It’s heavy for its size, but the profile is small enough that it doesn’t ride heavy. What it does ride is locked in. No twist, no give through the middle, just a direct line from your feet to your trucks.

The whole deck is laminated with waterproof resin, and the pre-preg shell takes weather resistance even further. The rails aren’t sealed, so don’t leave it sitting in a puddle. But this thing will handle variable road conditions and hard use better than most decks out there, and it’s very resistant to warping.

With the thicker build, the flush mount is now a true pocket. Your trucks sit flat without us carving away more board than we need to.

It comes topped with 36 grit griptape, so it’s ready to ride out of the box. Many riders will add torque blocks and foot stops. Don’t sweat it. Just drill into this brickhouse of a board as you need.

CONCAVE

The concave is the same as the original Mitty. The board is slimmer, so peak concave height comes in a touch lower, but the board feel is all there with the rails fully accessible.

Up front, there’s a spoon nose that adds board feel to an otherwise mellow concave. You get extra leverage on the toeside, while your heel still falls into comfortable flatter concave, so hanging the heel never gets uncomfortable. You can be all over that front truck and still feel at home.

In the rear, a W-concave starts in the back third of the deck and runs all the way through the tail. Ride it with or without a torque block. Add a wedge and it forms a toe pocket with the W for killer board feel and comfortable tucking and sliding. Skip the wedge and you’ve got plenty of rail feel and full use of the W.

THE GRAPHIC
The graphic is by Rafa Alvarez, and it’s his artistic take on Mitty’s home hill, Mount Panorama in Bathurst, Australia. If you know racing, you know Panorama. It’s an absolutely legendary hill. Putting Mitch’s home turf on his pro model just felt right, and we love Rafa’s color choice in racing red.

SETUPS
Slim trucks and fat wheels. GRIP CITY. 130mm trucks are the max here. For a full race setup, you’re likely looking at 110 to 115mm trucks with fat downhill wheels like Venom Magnums or Seismic Alphas. Mitch runs his on 105mm trucks, if you want to see how far down you can go. If you’re running a less race-oriented wheel, 130mm works great.

The wheel wells are slightly asymmetric to match how most people will set this board up: a higher degree, turny truck up front and a lower degree, stable truck in back. With 18″ to 20.5″ of wheelbase to play with, you can dial it in tight and twitchy or a little more relaxed.
